Overview

Chaumasi,, derived from the Sanskrit words “Chatur” meaning four and “Maas” meaning months, refers to the sacred practice of holding a religious fair every four months. This tradition dates back centuries and draws devotees from far and wide to Kalimath. During the Chaumasi fair, devotees gather to pay homage to the deities and seek blessings for prosperity and well-being.
There is an old traditional track route from village Chaamasi to Shri Kedarnath from where it takes three to four days to reach Shri Kedarnath. Even today many trekkers who want to avoid the crowd come on this track.
Chaumasvillage is the most remote village of Rudraprayag and the last village of Kalimath valley which is at an altitude of 2100 m above sea level. The main occupation here is agriculture.Old carved gates and old buildings can also be seen here.
